Let Go & Let Them
Happy Day! If you think about it, there is always something to be happy about in your life. “Think,” is the operative word in this sentence.
Since the month of May, which is just days away, is “Mental Health Awareness Month,” it’s a great time to start to observe your thinking patterns and how your thoughts do eventually determine your life.
At the outset, we define awareness. AWARENESS: the knowledge or perception of a situation or fact. To live in the present, which is to increase focus and reduce stress, we must be aware of our behavior, thoughts, surroundings and relationships.
If you want to live a life of balance and wellness, begin with raising your awareness of how and with whom you live your day to day.
It’s especially important and helpful to be aware of how you are treated by the people you are constantly in contact with. Also, do your relationships positively or negatively impact your mental wellbeing?
If there is a person devaluing you, abusing you or perpetuating ill feelings, you should think about letting go of this toxicity.
Maybe take the first step by writing down the patterns, your feelings and everything that is bothering you about this person. After you write everything down, you will have a clear idea of what is really going on in the relationship.
Decide to “Let go and let them.” In other words, you cannot control another person's behavior, but you can change yours by seeking counseling, redirecting behavior or letting go of a bad situation.
In the meantime, you can practice some strategies to build a vital mental state.
THE 5 C’s OF MENTAL HEALTH
CONNECT with positive and strong people
CULTIVATE empathy and kindness towards yourself
COPE develop healthy strategies for managing stress
COMMUNITY – join a group to reduce loneliness & belong
CARE about your well-being and get help if you need it
Your mental health is just as important as your physical and spiritual health. However, as always, balance the three; mental, physical and spiritual. Be mindful that thoughts, or your mental state, strongly influence how you experience emotions and actions eventually shaping your outcomes.
YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS:
Research from the National Library of Medicine reports that mental illness can weave itself through all aspects of one's life: physical health, parenting, work, childbearing, finances, caregiving, and common daily activities. An estimated 46.4% of Americans will experience some form of mental illness in their lifetime.5 Given a current U.S. population of more than 305 million, that figure represents an estimated 141 million of us. It does not include those affected by the mental illness of their spouses, parents, friends, children, or grandparents.
Awareness is the first step to improving your mental state. The next step is to take positive action and seek support or professional help if you need it.
Wishing you healthy thinking and a solid and well-balanced mental attitude, which of course always begins with a sense of gratitude.
