Art & Kefi: A Doorway To Peace & Everyday Wellness

An unexpected doodling art class opened my eyes to possibilities of being well through art.

Christina Angelos, a fine art artist and fellow Hellene hosted an art workshop at POUR DESTINO in Elmhurst, Illinois, which at the spur of the moment, I was delighted to-attend.

Sometimes the best moments are unplanned.

That lovely morning at the workshop I learned that art is a form of wellness. Upon entering POUR DESTINO, the first thing to  elevate my emotions and mood was seeing pleasant and friendly women.  The gathering was the impetus for collecting and experiencing positive energy.  The next thing I remember being so wonderful was a piece of art that Christina had painted and it was hanging on the wall.

DOORWAY TO PEACE spoke to my heart for many reasons, primarily because of the olive tree and the movement of colors in the door.  Christina explained to me that she painted “DOORWAY TO PEACE,” to illustrate that when you walk through any door you have the choice to choose peace or chaos.  This freedom to choose, painted on a canvas, was empowering.  I purchased immediately.

Another gift bestowed upon me that morning  was the realization that art has no rules,  instead, it is a perception of the world through emotion.

Christina, an art educator, expressed to our group that we are all artists and we are all capable of creating our own works.

Her business, Christina Angelos Studios concentrates on something called EUDAIMONIA, creating elevated emotion sustained throughout the day.  And you achieve this through capturing a moment, and preserving it for recall through painting that moment in time.

I can relate to the concept of EUDAIMONIA, but this day we were present to re-familiarize ourselves with doodling.  That exercise prompted something different, it was a form of relaxation and de-stress. Christina shares the expression and benefit of doodling during this week’s Kefi Life episode of ART THERAPY.

My all-in-all takeaway is that art is soulful, it allows one to create depth and relief.

Friends, express yourself any way you wish as you begin to bring the artist inside of you out on paper and into the world.

In the end, choose to walk through the doorway of peace, avoid the chaos in life by considering and engaging in ART THERAPY.

Remember: make it easy, make it simple and make it fun.
