Elevate Your Mind With Books (2026)

Reading well-crafted material- stories with depth and meaning- is a quiet yet powerful pathway to improving your well-being.

I elevate my personal development with non-fiction; however, I’ll also dive into an epic poem like The Odyssey and let the pages open my mind to the past.

The reading material is your choice, but I guarantee you the process will sharpen your overall wellness and your writing skills.

Some classics like: To Kill A Mockingbird, The Old Man & The Sea will not only inform you but more importantly form you.  Books written by Dickens reshape your outer world while O’Henry stories will change your heart.  Reading is a relationship that lifts spirits and nourishes one’s soul.

Dr. Elsa Jacobs Pinson shares research that proves the following:

  • Reading enhances cognitive functions, reduces the risk of cognitive decline, and boosts intelligence, making it a crucial activity for mental health and aging.

  • Engaging with books fosters emotional intelligence, empathy, and communication skills, which are essential for personal and professional development.

  • Regular reading can improve mental health by reducing stress, enhancing sleep quality, and even increasing lifespan through its calming effects.

This week, Kiki and Kyriako,
a transformational fitness coach, close out the BUZZ FOR LONGEVITY: PATHWAYS TO RENEWAL series with book selections to support growth, clarity and living with intention in 2026.

Together we discuss reads that will expand your mindset and strengthen your habits to elevate the way you think, live and lead.

Kyriako’s top pick remains CAN’T HURT ME: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins.

Things you will learn:

  • How to embrace mental toughness

  • How to embrace discipline

  • The 40 percent rule

“When you think that you are done, you are only 40 percent into what your body is capable of doing.” - David Goggins

Another suggestion you will hear about is:

EXREME OWNWERSHIP: How U.S. Navy Seals Lead and Win by Jocko Willink.

This is a leadership book that applies principles from combat to business and life.

Both Kyriako and I recommend  ATOMIC HABITS by James Clear

Clear’s research teaches that the framework for building good habits and breaking bad ones through small, consistent improvements, or atomic habits will lead to remarkable results.
